Greetings!
My name is Jason A. Young; I am the High School Festival Coordinator. Please consider this your invitation to The 2018 WVTA High School Festival!  This High School festival will be held on the campus of West Liberty University in West Liberty, WV on November 1-2, 2018.

The WVTA is dedicated to advancing new talent in West Virginia.  Many West Virginia colleges and universities will attend the festival to recruit young theatre artists. These institutions of higher education include Fairmont State University, Davis & Elkins College, Glenville State University, West Virginia State University, West Virginia Wesleyan College, West Virginia University, Marshall University and more.  The professors will be attending the one-act performances, holding auditions, advising technical projects and meeting with individual students. If you have students interested in theatre at the college level, this is the festival for them!

There are four ways to participate in the Festival:
One-Act Play Competition:  Schools may perform a 20-40 minute one-act. Each one-act will receive a critique from 3 professional adjudicators. Two schools will be invited to take their one-acts on to the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) in March with a generous financial stipend from WVTA to help them on their way!

College Auditions:  Theatre students are provided direct access to the college reps attending the festival.  To audition, students will need a one-minute monologue for straight acting or a 16-bar musical theatre selection and a one-minute monologue for musical theatre. Technical Theatre students may also participate in a portfolio review and interview.  After the student’s audition, the college reps will meet with the students.

Tech Project Consultations:  New this year, as many schools and students prepare for this Spring's Area and State Thespian Festivals, we will have a technical theatre professional on hand to offer 15-minute, one-on-one consultations to help students begin the process of design their project for the Thespian Tech Expo. Students must register for an appointment beforehand and pay the $5 Technical Theatre Consultation fee.

Workshops:  Also new this year, WVTA is renewing our commitment to providing students the opportunity to participate in dynamic and exciting workshops led by theatre professors and industry professionals in all aspects of theatre arts. Topics will be based upon workshop proposals as well as special requests from participating schools.
Registration Fees:
School Membership: $30 – each school that participates in the festival has to be a member of the WVTA. This fee is to register the school as a member of the organization. This allows all directors, school faculty, staff and chaperones to attend the festival for free without becoming an actual member of WVTA.

One-Act Competition Registration: $40 – Each school must also pay a registration fee to participate at the festival.   This fee helps to pay for judges, travel, awards, etc. for the festival. This also allows us to let the general public to  come and see the shows for free (including parents!)

Student Membership: $10 per student – The WVTA is membership driven. That means every student who participates in the High School Festival has to be member of WVTA. Students who pay this fee can list WVTA on their resume as a member of a professional theatre organization.
Once again, this membership fee goes toward paying costs for the festival.

College Audition Fee: $5 – Any student who would like to be auditioned by the college reps at the festival need to pay the High School Audition Fee. A student does NOT have to be a member of WVTA to participate, nor does their school have to be a member. ANY junior or senior from ANY West Virginia high school can be seen by the reps as long as they pay this $5 audition fee.

Tech Project Consultations: $5 – This is a registration fee for each project (individual or group) submitted.
